Maths Games

We have been working on our Mental Maths skills in class today. P1’s have been playing Snap it to 5 and 10 and P2 have been playing Dotty to 6.

Listening and Talking

Show and Tell will be moving to a Thursday as of this week. Our focus this term is being able to ask a range of appropriate questions to the speaker. Items brought in for Show and Tell will be kept in the classroom and the children will be encouraged not to take these outside at break and lunchtimes.

World Book Day – 5th March

We are really excited for World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. We will be celebrating the day with fancy dress, a competition, class buddying activities and other literacy related work within classes.

Optional Fancy Dress

  • Our fancy dress theme is simple this year – come dressed as your favourite book or film character. We would love to see some creative homemade costumes – there is no pressure to go out and buy anything for this.

Story Box Competition

  • Get creative and use a shoe box to create a scene from a book (fiction or non-fiction). It could be from your favourite book or from one of the books you are reading at school. Alongside your box, give a short summary or review of your book which will inspire others to read it. Entries will be judged on effort and creativity and winners will be chosen and announced in our World Book Day assembly. There will be certificates and prizes for our winners. (Please bring your story box into school on World Book Day.)
  • These will be judged in 3 categories – P1 & P2; P3 & P4 and P5-7. There will be one prize for the most creative story box in each category.

Sharing our Favourite Books Pupils are encouraged to bring in their favourite book, comic or magazine for World Book Day. This will be used during independent reading time and in some of our class activities.

We can’t wait for a great fun-filled book themed day!

Class Visitor

Mrs Cameron from Aberdeen University has come to join our class for a block of 4 weeks initially and then she will be returning for another 4 week block in April.  Mrs Cameron has settled in well in P1/2 and will plan and deliver a variety of lessons over the coming weeks.

P1 and 2 Home Learning

Primary 1 all received their first set of Key words in their Home Pack today and Reading books will also start going home again this week.  Along with practising Reading each night please can your child spend a couple of minutes daily practising reading their Key words and continue to work on reading and writing the P1 High Frequence Words.  These words are available on the blog.    Also this term the P1’s have all received a STEM pack which all have a set of activities in them for the family to do together.  These packs will be changed every couple of weeks.

P2 are all ecouraged to take part in the Head Teacher’s writing challenge this term along with their reading books and practising reading and writing the P2 High Frequency words.  These are on the blog.
